Through almost three decades Richard Burns has focused his professional involvement on providing the real estate industry with the design of image, identity and communications programs which allow developers, property owners and managers to achieve marketing success.

Since 1972 he has worked on community developments throughout the world. He has developed a singular approach to the process of developing community image and communications programs and has combined creativity with an in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the development process. Richard brings a decidedly strategic and market focused approach to real estate marketing.

Richard founded The GNU Group, a marketing communications and design firm, in 1974 and was his chairman until recently when he divested his interest in the firm in order to consult more independently.

He was founder of The Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD), served as its President, and in 1987 was selected as the Society’s first Fellow. He is a board member of The Designed Landscape Forum. He has served as a grant selection panel member for the National Endowment for the Arts and authored numerous professional publications.

Richard’s involvement in creating image, identity and marketing programs for complex real estate developments has resulted in proprietary methods which position projects to give them a competitive advantage. He is a recipient of design and communications awards from all major design competitions.
